Keep On Trucking
Client: Short Haul Trucking Company shipping over 10,000 loads per month
Project
After many years of sustained growth, a large trucking company chose to replace their cobbled billing and accounting systems by purchasing an integrated software package known as Transportation Management and Control (TMC).
Unbeknownst to them, it was bug ridden and needed significant modifications before it could be used to run their business. As a result of this discovery, we were brought in to manage the implementation and fix the bugs as they cropped up.
One thing that complicated the implementation was that our client had six distinct divisions – a dry bulk division, a liquid bulk division, a refrigerated division, a flat bed division, and two dump truck divisions. Each division was headquartered in a different area of the country and each had their own unique business requirements.
Solution
TMC is an enterprise level application designed to run every aspect of a trucking company. Its modules include: equipment, customers, dispatch, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payables, contractor payables, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger.
We started our implementation at their corporate headquarters, which is home of their largest division. Our analysts pre-loaded their equipment and customers into the database and began bringing modules live – one at the time. As the corporate headquarters came up on each module, many of the bugs were identified and fixed by our programming staff. Since TMC is an enterprise level application it was imperative that our analysts have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all of TMC’s modules from inventory control to accounting and customer management.
After headquarters was fully functioning on TMC, we moved on to the outer divisions and brought them live one at a time. Since each division functioned differently, we needed to make minor changes to the system that met their division’s specific needs, but we had to do so without negatively effecting the other divisions.
Once the implementation was complete our client was dispatching and billing over 10,000 shipments per month throughout their six divisions.
The new computer system replaced several manual and automated processes. It greatly improved efficiency in the client’s dispatching, billing, and account processes.
