EDI – Electronic Data Interchange

Client: Large International Manufacturer of Consumer Electronics

Project

Many organizations require the use of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to communicate with their business partners. EDI saves money by replacing inconsistent human and cumbersome paper transactions with fast, efficient, electronic exchange of structured of data. For large “big-box” retailers like Target, Sears, and Wal-Mart, documents such as Invoices, Purchase Orders, and Advance Shipping Notices are only accepted via EDI. As with all technology, standards for EDI change every few years  If our client wanted to continue doing business with these “big-box” retailers, they would have to modify their Advanced Shipping Notices (EDI Document 856) and Invoices (EDI Document 810) to meet the latest EDI standards.

Solution

We were tasked with re-writing the programs that generate our client’s EDI 810 and 856 documents. We generated the EDI documents which were then translated and transmitted to our client’s trading partners.

Results

Cooperating with the changing EDI standards is paramount in continuing business with customers such as Target, Sears, and Walmart. Implementing EDI keeps our client’s customers happy, helps our client get new customers, and keeps our client ahead of their competitors.
