Conversion to Graphical User Interface

Client: International Construction, Architecture, and Engineering Company

Project

A worldwide leader in engineering and large-scale construction needed to update their requisitioning and purchasing business applications from a text based legacy system to a windows based solution.

Solution

The client’s business system operates on an IBM RS/6000 computer running the UniVerse database. We used ONWare’s Blacksmith product, a graphical user interface (GUI) tool, as middleware to create a true windows environment as a front end to their database applications.

Results

The Blacksmith solution saved the company several hundreds of thousands of dollars and an immeasurable amount of time given that they did not need to migrate to a new system. They were able to use their existing code and maintained the integrity of their existing business logic. Since most people are accustomed to using Microsoft Windows, the Blacksmith solution saves our client time by not having to train new employees to navigate the old text-based data entry screens.
